Pre- and Post-Treatment Instructions

BEFORE YOUR APPOINTMENT (PRE-TREATMENT)

To ensure safe treatment and optimal results:

• Arrive with clean skin (no makeup, creams, or spot treatments on the area)

• Avoid picking, squeezing, or manipulating acne lesions for 48 hours prior

• Avoid alcohol for 24 hours prior to treatment

• Continue prescribed medications unless directed otherwise

• Inform your provider if you are pregnant, breastfeeding, or trying to conceive

• Notify your provider of any active skin infections, cold sores, or open wounds

• Let us know if you have had prior steroid injections in the same area

 

AFTER YOUR APPOINTMENT (POST-TREATMENT)

What to Expect

• Mild redness, swelling, or tenderness at the injection site is normal

• Acne lesions typically flatten or improve within 24–72 hours

• Temporary bruising may occur

• Results vary by individual and lesion type

 

Aftercare Instructions

• Do not touch, squeeze, or pick the treated area

• Avoid makeup on the treated area for 12–24 hours

• Avoid strenuous exercise for 24 hours

• Avoid excessive heat for 24 hours (sauna, steam room, hot tubs)

• Keep the area clean and dry

• Do not apply topical acne treatments to the area for 24 hours unless directed

 

Important Information

• Acne steroid injections reduce inflammation but do not prevent future breakouts

• Overuse may increase the risk of skin thinning or discoloration

• Additional treatments may be recommended as part of your overall acne plan

 

CONTACT OUR OFFICE IMMEDIATELY IF YOU EXPERIENCE:

• Increasing pain, redness, or swelling

• Drainage, warmth, or signs of infection

• Skin indentation, thinning, or color change at the injection site

• Any symptoms that concern you

This treatment is intended to reduce inflammation in specific acne lesions. Results are not immediate for all patients, and response may vary.
