What Is Progesterone?
Progesterone is a naturally occurring hormone that plays an essential role in hormonal balance, sleep regulation, mood stability, and overall wellness. Supplemental progesterone has been prescribed as part of your hormone replacement therapy to support hormonal equilibrium and symptom relief.
How It Works:
Progesterone works by supporting balance within the endocrine system and interacting with receptors in the brain and body that influence sleep, mood, stress response, and overall hormonal regulation. It also helps counterbalance the effects of estrogen within the body. Benefits develop with consistent use.
Expected Benefits:
Patients may experience improved sleep quality, reduced anxiety or irritability, improved mood stability, relief from hormonal fluctuations, and an improved overall sense of well-being. Benefits are cumulative and vary by individual.
When to Use:
Progesterone should be used exactly as prescribed by your medical provider. Timing and frequency are individualized based on treatment goals, clinical findings, and response to therapy.
Possible Side Effects:
Common side effects may include drowsiness, dizziness, bloating, breast tenderness, headache, or mild nausea. Less common side effects may include mood changes, fatigue, fluid retention, or changes in appetite. Side effects are often dose-dependent and may improve with adjustments.
Contact Your Provider If You Experience:
Persistent or worsening side effects, significant mood changes, severe dizziness, shortness of breath, chest discomfort, unusual swelling, unexplained bleeding, or any symptoms that feel unusual or concerning. Seek immediate medical attention for signs of an allergic reaction, including difficulty breathing or facial swelling.
Who Should Not Use:
Suite Skin will not prescribe progesterone to patients who are pregnant, actively trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Progesterone is also contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to progesterone or its components, active or suspected hormone-sensitive malignancy, unexplained vaginal bleeding, or medical conditions that require provider clearance prior to treatment. You must notify our medical team if you have, develop, or suspect any of these conditions at any time during therapy.
Treatment Expectations:
Progesterone is not an instant treatment. Symptom improvement typically develops over time with consistent use. Ongoing follow-up is required to monitor response and make any necessary adjustments. Results vary and are not guaranteed.
Patient Responsibility:
Use progesterone only as prescribed. Do not change dosing, timing, or frequency without provider approval. Attend required follow-up appointments and report side effects or concerns promptly.
Questions: Contact your provider with any questions or concerns regarding your treatment.
