What Is Testosterone?

Testosterone is a naturally occurring hormone that plays an important role in energy levels, muscle strength, libido, mood, cognitive function, and overall well-being. Supplemental testosterone has been prescribed as part of your hormone replacement therapy to support hormonal balance and symptom relief when levels are low.

How It Works:

Testosterone works by binding to androgen receptors throughout the body, supporting muscle tone, bone density, sexual function, motivation, and metabolic health. It also contributes to mood regulation and cognitive clarity. Benefits develop gradually with consistent use and appropriate dosing.

Expected Benefits:

Patients may experience improved energy levels, enhanced libido, improved mood and motivation, increased muscle tone and strength, improved mental clarity, and overall improvement in quality of life. Benefits are cumulative and vary by individual.

When to Use:

Testosterone should be used exactly as prescribed by your medical provider. Timing and frequency are individualized based on laboratory values, symptoms, treatment goals, and response to therapy. Please refer to your customized treatment plan.

Possible Side Effects:

Common side effects may include mild acne, oily skin, increased hair growth, or changes in body odor. Less common side effects may include voice changes, scalp hair thinning, mood changes, irritability, fluid retention, or changes in cholesterol levels. Side effects are often dose-dependent and may improve with adjustment.

Contact Your Provider If You Experience:

Persistent or worsening acne or hair growth, voice deepening, hair loss, significant mood changes, swelling, chest discomfort, unexplained bleeding, or any symptoms that feel unusual or concerning. Seek immediate medical attention for signs of an allergic reaction, including difficulty breathing or facial swelling.

Who Should Not Use:

Suite Skin will not prescribe testosterone to patients who are pregnant, actively trying to become pregnant, or breastfeeding. Testosterone is also contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to testosterone or its components, active or suspected hormone-sensitive malignancy, uncontrolled cardiovascular disease, severe liver dysfunction, or medical conditions that require provider clearance prior to treatment. You must notify our medical team if you have, develop, or suspect any of these conditions at any time during therapy.

Treatment Expectations:

Testosterone is not an instant treatment. Symptom improvement typically develops over time with consistent use. Ongoing follow-up is required to monitor hormone levels, response, and safety, and dosage adjustments may be necessary. Results vary and are not guaranteed.

Patient Responsibility:

Use testosterone only as prescribed. Do not change dosing, timing, or frequency without provider approval. Attend required follow-up appointments and report side effects or concerns promptly.

Questions: Contact your provider with any questions or concerns regarding your treatment.
